We present a new forward solver for the shunt model of 3D electrical impedance tomography (EIT). The new solver is based on a direct discretization of the conditions for the current density within the EIT region. Given a mesh over the region, the new solver finds firstly the amount of current flowing through each face of every element in the mesh, then the distribution of current density and finally the potential distribution. Results of simulation show that the new solver could give similar results as the traditional finite element method.
