In this paper, we propose an outage optimal beamformer design for transmission over multiple-input single-output two-wave with diffuse power fading channels.
We identify the structure of the outage optimal beamformer and are thereby able to reduce the generally complicated beamformer optimization to a simple line search. To further enhance the reliability of the transmission, we employ distributed antenna arrays and investigate the performance of outage-optimal antenna array selection. We finally evaluate the transmission latency of the considered system under latency-optimal rate adaptation.
